We are looking for a SEC Reporting Director for our fast-growing company.  This is a newly created position that will be reporting to the VP, Accounting.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for all aspects of SEC filings, address technical accounting issues, document the issues and related accounting in formal memorandums, and provide guidance on those issues to team members, develop and oversee accounting policies, lead new market implementation for the Accounting team, and perform various special project/administrative tasks on an as needed basis.  The ideal candidate is a team player and is willing to step in and help team members out in order to achieve our goals.  This position is based out of the corporate headquarters in Orange, CA, with the ability to work remotely approximately 50% of the time. 

 

 

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

 

  • Provides leadership and technical accounting expertise in the internal and external financial reporting function of the Company
  • Direct preparation SEC filings - 10-Q's and 10-K's, including preparation and coordination of supporting schedules
  • Ensures all financial reports and disclosures comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Conducts detailed research of potential changes to accounting rules proposed by accounting standards setters, and advises senior management regarding same
  • Develop, implement and communicate new policies and processes to comply with newly issued accounting standards
  • Oversees accounting department policies and ensures regular and timely update of those policies
  • Provides accounting guidance related to proposed transactions to ensure conformity with GAAP and company policies and procedures
  • Serve as the lead on new market implementations for Accounting with project management of new workstreams that will be needed prior to go live
  • Work with the General Ledger team to ensure that relevant accounting standards are appropriately and consistently applied
  • Coordinate with external audit firm to coordinate, manage and complete interim and year end audit in the required timeframe; be the point person for complex accounting matters
  • Spearhead special projects as required by executive management such as, but not limited to, automation around accounting processes and financial reporting, due diligence, Sox testing, and continuous process improvements
  • Various other tasks such as serving as the backup administrator to the Director, SOX Internal Controls and Financial Accounting Systems and maintaining the updating the Company’s library of standard reports

 

Qualifications

Must Haves

  • Proven track record with 8 to 10 years with a combination of Accounting / SEC reporting experience, including at least 6 years within a Big 4 Accounting firm
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA license (Certified Public Accountant)
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP, SEC regulations and reporting requirements
  • Solid understanding and experience in SOX 404
  • Solid technical accounting research skills
  • Strong accounting, finance and business acumen
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent project management and organization skills
  • Inspiring and motivating; results driven; self-motivated; ability to work constructively under pressure; able to work with others at varying levels within the organization
  • Automation minded sensibility (technology and automated solutions oriented) and a curious nature

 

Strong Pluses

  • Experience using Active Disclosure or Workiva
  • Working knowledge of XBRL tagging
  • Working knowledge of various systems used by the accounting department such as Great Plains and Blackline
  • Experience with healthcare/insurance statutory reporting
