Position Title: Medical Records Clerk

External Description:

The medical record clerk (temporary) is responsible for managing all electronic medical record inventory and requests for the Medicare STAR and Risk Adjustment programs.

Location: Orange, CA
Length of assignment: 10 weeks

General Duties / Responsibilities

(May include but are not limited to)

  • Manage inventory of all electronic PDF medical records on file in the department and ensure they are indexed appropriately for easy retrieval.
  • Review medical records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Log all current and incoming medical records with relevant demographic information (using Microsoft Excel, Sharepoint, or Access).
  • Request medical records on behalf of department staff from providers for data collection and quality audit purposes. Track all medical record requests and perform appropriate follow-up as needed.
  • Download medical records from multiple EMR’s and populate into the department chart repository.
  • Communicate effectively with external provider office staff, maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude.
  • Successfully navigate the computer to access various programs and EMR’s, respond to e-mail requests via Microsoft Outlook, reformat medical record files on Adobe Acrobat, access electronic faxes, and navigate Windows File Explorer to manage the inventory of medical records on file.
  • Ensure patient privacy is protected by adhering to HIPAA standards, company policies and procedures, and other federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Travel to provider offices to retrieve charts as needed.
  • Other special projects and assignments as needed.

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of customer service / telemarketing experience.
  • Experience in managed care, medical front office, or hospital setting preferred.
  • Basic computer skills necessary; >90% of time will be spent working on the computer.

Education Licensure

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Associates degree preferred

Other

  • Strong communications skills: written, verbal, and interpersonal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience performing data entry
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of HIPAA
  • Valid driver’s license
