Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Human Capital, will act as an employee champion and change agent while considering the unique needs of the business unit and overall business.  S/he will also be work on initiatives such as developing policies and procedures, employee communications and other duties as required.

 

Primary Duties:

  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues conducts investigations with a solid understanding of State and Federal Labor Laws.
  • Guides and advises Managers through performance management & conflict resolution process.
  • Conducts regular meetings with respective business unit leaders to:  
    • Identify, seek and develop recommendations to complex employee relations concerns and trends (i.e., turnover, morale, etc.)
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HC group to develop solutions, programs and policies.
  • Manages and investigates workers compensation claims and work injuries.
  • Reviews, and makes recommendations for Handbook updates on an annual basis to ensure compliance with statutory regulations, laws, and programs.
  • Works as a mediator & liaison between employee and management to find solutions
  • Consults with Director, SVP Human Capital and/or Legal on highly complex or high-risk situations
  • Provides training to managers and supervisors to increase and enhance skills sets to address performance issues

Additional duties include:

  • Responding to inquiries regarding organization’s policies, procedures, and benefits
  • Assisting the Human Capital Management on key projects and initiatives.
  • Strong collaboration with Payroll and collaboration with the Leave of Absence and Workers Compensation function.
  • Taking on other related tasks as delegated and assigned by Director, Human Capital.
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.

Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3- 5+ years Human Resource experience.
    • 3- 5+ years dealing with complex Employee Relations issues
  • High degree of expertise and experience in Employee Relations
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state labor laws
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of leadership, from Executive to line management
  • Able to multi-task and manage several conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with and maintain confidential information
  • Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, & Outlook
  • Flexibility in dealing with a variety of work situations
  • Empathetic, tactful, and diplomatic
  • Can work independently with no oversight required
  • Can work under pressure
  • Must be able to work in an unstructured entrepreneurial environment
  • Good working knowledge base and understanding of benefits insurance, leave of absence, and workers compensation, union avoidance, employee relations and organizational development (OD)

Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of HR management & administration highly desired. SHRM or PHR Certification a plus. Internal investigation training/certification helpful.
